The Atlantis Hotel Barbados wedding of Faith & Marcus
The alarm shook us out of our deep sleep. I looked over at my phone and she started back at me with 4:30 a.m. I rolled over thinking to myself – I have time, why is my alarm set so early. Fifteen seconds later I jumped out of the bed and almost knocked over my still sleeping husband. It was Marcus & Faith’s wedding day and unlike 99.9% of the weddings we’ve photographed before, today was going to be very different. We were meeting them for 5:40 am at a quaint seaside hotel in Tent Bay, home to a small fishing village on the east coast of Barbados. Their wedding ceremony was set for 8:45 a.m.
Atlantis Hotel Barbados Wedding
When you arrive at Atlantis hotel you’re immediately smitten with its charm. This intimate family owned hotel has 3 cottages that all overlook the ocean. You can choose to sink into one of their rocking chairs from your balcony, tea in hand while watching nature unfold. If you’re not careful, you could end up spending the entire day there.
We arrived as the sun crested the horizon casting a golden glow over the fisherman’s tethered boat. The girl’s laughter cascaded over the ocean waves directing us to their location. They were a happy bunch, lounging in conversation while watching the sun rise. The fellas on the other hand were on the patio of the cottage below, discussing the kind of party the girls were having the night before.
While Marcus was getting ready a group of hikers stopped to watch and congratulate him. One of men in the group who had been married for 20+ years eventually shared a bit of wisdom with Marcus.
“Your wife is always right!” The entire group erupted in laughter and cheers.
There was hardly a moment throughout the day where a smile wasn’t on Faith’s face. We could tell she was soaking up every moment. It was to be her first and last wedding after all.
As her cousin helped her into her dress, she began humming. She was overflowing with excitement. The day was finally here. Marcus was going to be her husband!
So while Marcus brother was praying over the day…
Faith was getting the final touches of getting ready done to meet Marcus for their First Look. 🙂
Marcus – GQ called.;-)
Their First Look
There aren’t enough heart eyed emojis for these two!
As Marcus turned – the spectators on the balcony aka Faith’s girls let out a series of whoops and cheers.
We really enjoyed photographing them around these fishing boats.
Not your typical bride – Faith got barefoot and rocked her something blue!
Bridal party shenanigans! Who needs a party when you have these guys?
This was Faith’s ride to the church – a Volkswagen beetle, while Marcus and the rest of the bridal party arrived took a wild ride in a jeep with Island Safari Barbados.
The signing of the register – our favorite part about weddings in the Caribbean!
If you didn’t know…Marcus is a poet. These two friends of his delivered a moving and hilarious spoken word piece sharing the story of how Marcus & Faith met and the journey to wedding day.
Finally Mr. & Mrs. King!
Come fly with me, let’s fly away!
Following the ceremony at Mount Tabor Church guests took the scenic route to Atlantis Hotel’s restaurant to enjoy breakfast overlooking the water. They were greeted with voyage to a time past – from vintage luggage to postcards from around the world and the highlight – hot air balloons!
A beautiful way to end a perfect wedding day – having grandma pray over you!
