The Key Largo Lighthouse Beach Wedding of Stephanie and Richard
Love & Laughter
Have you ever met a couple who wore laughter like your favorite winter sweater? Stephanie and Richards are a pair of kindred souls. They’re the kind you instantly connect with for couch conversations over popcorn and wine. They are suave and chill all at the same time. They’re the ones making sure everyone else is okay. This became evident in a check up call with them before the wedding.
Their love for nature and dazzling blue beaches meant looking beyond the urban landscape of their hometown of NYC. The secluded coconut tree laden property of The Key Largo Lighthouse beach in Florida became their favorite. The southernmost point in the whole country with turquoise waters, and cotton candy sunsets that put you in a trance. How could you not fall in love?
But back to them putting everyone else’s needs before theirs. They had arrived a few days before the wedding. We thought they would have planted themselves in a hammock while sipping on umbrella cocktails. Instead they were making the 75 minute drive between Miami airport and Key Largo Lighthouse beach to transport close friends and family to their hotels, each day!
A much needed adventure
It all started with a phone call from Janine. She was inviting Stephanie to go skydiving with her for her uncle’s birthday in NY. Stephanie hadn’t met Janine’s uncle, but was familiar with many of the other family members. It took much convincing but Stephanie eventually relented and drove from Washington D.C. to meet with Janine in New York. What she didn’t realize was that she would be meeting her husband and jumping out of a plane with him! Their spirits were so drawn to each other that it felt like home after only two days. The next two years was a whirlwind of travel between Miami and London for Stephanie. They kept in touch, but didn’t see each other again until they were reunited on a Mediterranean cruise group vacation two years later. It was then they realized that their relationship was worth exploring. So they dived in with as much abandon as their skydiving trip.
“He told me we were going to a work trip he had in London. I had lived in London and fell in love with the UK so I was very excited. He had already gotten the ring. However, the setting he designed was not ready. So he had the designer expedite a proposal ring with a solitaire sapphire. On the third night, I had convinced myself that my friends’ suggestions of an upcoming proposal was wrong. We went out for a lovely dinner in Oxford Circus. We then went back to the hotel for drinks at the bar. The drink I had ordered happened to have a ring in it! Once I saw the ring I asked if he knew what I wanted in a ring and he answered everything correctly. We finished our drinks and went back to the room. I began taking a photo of the fake ring to send it to my friends as a joke. As I took the picture I saw him going down on one knee. He said “I think I have a better ring for you.” When I turned the ring he had described at dinner, my dream ring, was in his hand!
